SummerSlam 1999

1. Jeff Jarrett defeated D-Lo Brown by pinfall to win the Intercontinental Championship and European Championship

This was a real good opener, even if it was much too short. D-Lo was always a favorite of mine during this time period.

Rating: 3.25 (out of 5)

2. The Acolytes defeated Edge + Christian, Hardy Boyz, Mideon + Viscera, Droz + Prince Albert, and The Hollys by pinfall

This started off hot, thanks to Edge and Christian, but fell apart once they lost. These matches usually end up feeling repetitive.

Rating: 1.75

3. Al Snow defeated Big Boss Man to win the Hardcore Championship

This was actually pretty entertaining, even if we have seen this type of match 100 times before.

Rating: 2

4. Ivory defeated Torrie by pinfall

This was pretty awful. I think the fans forget how far the females have come along in the past decade.

Rating: .25

5. Ken Shamrock defeated Steve Blackman by decision

I really liked the Shamrock/Owen Hart match at the previous SummerSlam, but this one just was kind of there.

Rating: 1

6. Test defeated Shane McMahon by pinfall

Shane was pretty much money at this point of time. Test, at this point, was probably one of the better big men.

Rating: 3

7. Big Show + Undertaker defeated X-Pac + Kane to win the Tag Team Championships

This had some moments, but there were just too many big men involved.

Rating: .75

8. Rock defeated Billy Gunn by pinfall

I never really got what they saw in Billy Gunn. He was a decent performer, but just lacked that extra something to be fighting The Rock at a major show.

Rating: 2.25

9. Mankind defeated Triple H and Steve Austin to win the WWF Championship

This was a good WWE 90s style main event, but I felt that the ending should have been a little bit more special. I remember watching this live, assuming Foley had no shot.

Rating: 3.5

This show is definitely better than a lot of shows, but there is something about the storylines in this era that do not hold up as well. Still, this is solid, but unspectacular.
