Judgment Day 2006

1. Paul London + Brian Kendrick defeated MNM by pinfall to win the Tag Team Championships

***Match Of The Night***

This was a great choice to open the show and a real fun match. London and Kendrick were pretty hot at the time and this was a showcase of some of the young talent in the WWE at the time.

Rating: 3.25 (out of 5)

2. Chris Benoit defeated Finlay by submission

This was an old-fashioned style match that the crowd stayed into. However, it was a bit slow and the finish was weak, hurting the match.

Rating: 2.75

3. Jillian defeated Melina by pinfall

This was surprisingly okay and a nice surprise to see Jillian actually win a match.

Rating: 1.25

4. Gregory Helms defeated Super Crazy by pinfall

This was a fun match that had a great beginning and ending. The middle dragged a tad, but this was a good effort.

Rating: 2.75

5. Mark Henry defeated Kurt Angle by countout

Angle seemed to be on a mission to make up for his poor Royal Rumble match with Henry. Unfortunately, the ending was so stupid that it hurt this. Why not just have Angle go nuts and get disqualified if you wanted the non-finish?

Rating: 2.5

6. Booker T defeated Lashley by pinfall

This of course led to King Booker and a career revitalization for Booker. The match was decent and Lashley was still pretty horrible at this point.

Rating: 2.25

7. Great Khali defeated Undertaker by pinfall

I remember being very surprised that Khali beat the Undertaker so cleanly. This was not a very good match, but far from Taker's worst monster match.

Rating: .5

8. Rey Mysterio defeated JBL by pinfall

This was not as good as their 2005 match and seemed to lack the spark that most Mysterio matches have. This wasn't bad, just disappointing.

Rating: 2.25

Watching this show again, I realized this was very much like a early to mid 90s style show. You had your Undertaker vs. a monster match, a tag team match that actually meant something, a new King of the Ring being crowned, and a face champion defeating a heel that you know had no chance of winning. And just like a show from that era, it was an entertaining three hours, but definitely not a classic. This is not a big thumbs up, but is definitely enjoyable, especially if you enjoyed the WWE during this time period.
