Backlash 2009

1. Christian defeated Jack Swagger by pinfall to win the ECW Championship

This was a great choice for the opener and these guys work together extremely well. Christian deserved better upon his arrival, but he still worked hard.

Rating: 3.25 (out of 5)

2. Chris Jericho defeated Ricky Steamboat by submission

Due to Steamboat looking so impressive, they had him go out there one more time with Jericho. He still looked good, but you could see the age set in as the match went on.

Rating: 2.25

3. Kane defeated CM Punk by pinfall

I'm not quite sure what the point of this match was. CM Punk had just won Money In The Bank for the second year in a row, then he jobs to Kane on pay-per-view.

Rating: 2

4. Jeff Hardy defeated Matt Hardy in an I Quit Match

I'm one of the few who enjoyed this feud and I absolutely love Matt as a heel. They told a good story here and although it was slow at some points, this was good stuff.

Rating: 3.25

5. Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, + Ted Dibiase defeated Triple H, Batista, + Shane McMahon by pinfall (Randy Orton won the WWE Championship)

This was a good old school 6 man tag team match. There were some good stories in there and everyone performed well. I wish they would do more 6 man tags just to break up all the title matches. Why do we need two title matches every pay-per-view?

Rating: 3.25

6. Edge defeated John Cena in a Last Man Standing Match to win the World Heavyweight Championship

***Match Of The Night***

This was a great Attitude-era brawl featuring two guys who know how to put on a show. I've recently seen some backlash towards this match, but I don't understand why. No it's not Angle/Benoit, but it's not trying to be. It's more like a Rock/Austin match, which most people would agree were some great battles.

Rating: 4

Once again, Backlash delivered. Only 6 matches on the card (no, I didn't count the Santino/Beth fiasco) and all of them are at least pretty good. Throw in the fact that you have a great main event and this show gets an automatic thumbs up.

Overall Rating: 84%
